Early Fort Boone (Boonesborough) Kentucky Settlers

Originally from a post to ROOTS-L ftp site. Modified and expanded from the web author’s own research on the Saltmakers and Capt. Charles Gwatkin’s Company of Volunteers from Bedford, VA.

“Bluegrass Roots,” published by the Kentucky Genealogical Society, reprinted an article by H. Thomas Tudor about the “Early Settlers of Fort Boonesborough.” The article was published in Volume 5, No. 1, p. 1-14. The bibliography was published in a later issue. The references are reproduced here. I DO NOT know where to obtain these references. If you have Kentucky ancestors, I recommend that you join the Kentucky Genealogical Society, P.O. RG Note: (killed **) indicates that the source mentioned records this individual killed, when in fact they were among those captured by the Indians at The Blue Licks, as shown in Reference #20, above. Some of these later died in captivity, but many escaped, or were held by the British until traded, or released at the end of the war. Some were “adopted” by the Indians, and remained with the Indians, even after the war.
