Goodmans of Wilson County Tennessee

The Wilson County Goodmans consisted of at least two lines, possibly but not certainly related. One was that of Claiborne Goodman, son of Benjamin Goodman and Marya Williams Goodman of Louisa Co., VA and later Granville Co., NC and Laurens Co., SC. The other was that of Robert Goodman, Sr., brother of my ancestor Amos I. Goodman, and son of John Goodman and Epharilla Thorp(e).

Information about Claiborne Goodman and his ancestors and descendants is primarily from materials and communications from Donald Goodman of Ft. Worth.

Information about Robert Goodman Sr. and his descendants is primarily from Nancy Goodman of Nashville, and is her husband's line.

The transcriptions of Wilson County microfilmed records are from my research on a visit to the Wilson Co., public library in 1998.

Additional information about all of the Wilson County Goodmans is from the research of Bob Carver. The only issue I have with Mr. Carver's research is that he names Claiborne Goodman as a brother of Capt. William Goodman who was killed at the Battle of Eutaw Springs SC Sept 8, 1781 and his brother Jacob Goodman, who took up lands of his deceased brother in Davidson Co., TN. In fact, William M. Goodman, brother of Claiborn died 09-28-1793 and left will in Laurens Co., SC naming Claiborne and other relations.
